Villaviciosa environment

The environment

La Casona is located in the village of Amandi, a few minutes from Villaviciosa and settled in the plain of the Llinares River that flows into the Cantabrian Sea through the Ría of Villaviciosa, an estuary of high ecological value for its important vegetation and fauna, especially ornithological.

It is located less than thirty kilometers from Gijón and its location is ideal to explore the Asturian East, both for its coastline, to visit its fishing villages and villas,

and for its interior, since it is about forty kilometers from Arriondas, Cangas de Onís or Covadonga.

The enclave is ideal for sports and has several hiking and bicycle trails. Rodiles Beach is known all over the world for the quality of the waves in the Ribadesella Estuary, frequented by fans of surfing and other aquatic sports.

Nearby towns and villages

La Casona is located in Amandi, a village located on the outskirts of Villaviciosa, capital of the council. This well-known Asturian town has numerous touristic attractions. The ornamental richness of its Romanesque heritage is represented in the Church of Santa María de la Oliva, as well as in the temples of adjoining villages such as San Juan de Amandi, or Santa Eulalia de Selorio. The Monumental Complex of Valdediós is an authentic jewel of the Asturian pre-Romanesque.

Gijón is one of the most important cities in Asturias and is located less than thirty kilometers from the house. Oviedo, capital of the province, is located at slightly greater distance, about forty minutes by car.

The location of the house is an ideal enclave to explore the eastern coast of Asturias, its villages and fishing villages. Starting with Tazones, ten kilometers from Villaviciosa.

Lastres is another town of seafaring tradition of obligatory visit in the council of Colunga. Forty kilometers from Villaviciosa, along the coast, we find Ribadesella, known internationally for the Descent of the Sella River, and Llanes, another popular town almost on the border with Cantabria.

In the interior, approaching the Picos de Europa, we find Arriondas and Cangas de Onis, first city of the Asturian monarchy and a mandatory stop to climb the Sanctuary of Covadonga; one of the most iconic sites visited in the region.

Activities and sports

The entire enclave of the Ribadesella estuary and the surroundings of Villaviciosa are the ideal framework to practice various sports and outdoor activities. From the Casona we organize tailor-made routes adapted to the tastes of our visitors.

Routes by bike, on horseback or on foot.

La Casona is surrounded by green environments and routes that will connect you with nature, such as the Camino de Santiago, the route of the black jet mine mouths, the cliffs of the Cantabrian Sea or the routes of Los Molinos and Azabache. The “Escapada en bandada” merits a special mention in which a biologist from the area, with extensive knowledge of nature, gives us a guided ornithological tour of the landscape and the history of the place. We organize tailor-made routes for all tastes whether by bicycle, on horseback, or on foot.

Gastronomy

In the Casona we prepare our breakfasts and dinners with seasonal fresh ingredients, mostly ecological, with the intention that our guests get to know first-hand the traditional Asturian cuisine and ingredients. For events and banquets we are lucky to have the cooperation of “Catering Manzano”, who has two Michelin stars and five Repsol suns. We encourage you to get to know the gastronomy of the area. A must experience if the purpose of the visit to Asturias is culinary, since you cannot eat anywhere as in the north of the country. We encourage you to visit the Finca de Los Caserinos, a family farm that is dedicated to the production of natural and high-quality dairy products. Another unmissable recommendation is the visit to the “espichas” and “llagares” of the area to enjoy the typical Asturian tradition of our yellow gold: Cider. Villaviciosa, called the capital of cider, has various cider events, visits to apple sites and llagares..
